JTC Jersey Wanderers will have one eye on the future as they celebrate their 120th anniversary at a special gala dinner this year.
The event, to be held at the Royal Yacht Hotel on 9 October, will celebrate the contribution made to the club by generations of players over the years, but also recognise the future direction of the Club which has been at the forefront of the Jersey football landscape since its inception in 1894. The dinner will also feature a range of entertainment and a question and answer session with visiting Club Ambassadors and Spurs legends Ossie Ardiles and Paul Miller, and talkSport presenter Alan Brazil.
With its strong roots in Jersey football and the local community more widely, JTC Wanderers have a strong track-record in age appropriate coaching, reaching players as young as five years old and supporting them right through to adulthood, and in offering a challenging and supportive environment for all of its members.
One of the six teams who came together to form the Jersey Football League in 1898, JTC Wanderers played in the first ever ‘big’ inter-insular game against a Guernsey team in 1896 and over the years have won the First Division 25 times and the Upton Park Trophy on 11 occasions, with Wanderers players accumulating a total of 370 Muratti caps for Jersey. The Wanderers are also Jersey’s first FA Charter Standard Community Club.
The Club will also use the dinner to look forward to the future, by pointing to its firm financial footing, the revitalisation to JTC Park and its facilities, the commitment of the people who can ensure the long-term vision of the Club comes to fruition, including its players, backroom staff, volunteers and dedicated Board of Directors.
Gary Dauvin, JTC Jersey Wanderers Club President, commented:
“It’s exciting to celebrate the success of a Club that is so steeped in heritage and tradition. The Wanderers have come so far since they were founded 120 years ago, and we are extremely grateful to everyone who has played a part in our history, including our valued sponsors JTC who are in their third year of supporting us.”
“Now is also a time for looking forward to the future and evolving the club even further through strengthening our much-needed team of volunteers and improving the facilities we occupy. We have a loyal and dedicated team of people who have been integral in helping develop the Club to where it is today, which has given it a strong presence in the Football League and community. These individuals will continue to be vital in the future as we look to build and develop the Club even further.”
