Jersey Wanderers Memorial Trophy

Saturday 15 August 2015 saw our Men’s First Team take their first bit of silverware for the season by winning 4 – 2 in Guernsey against North. Well done boys!

Andrew Johnstone, delighted Team Manager, writes …..

“I managed to get 4 x U18s onto the squad – including the young keeper Luke Duncan who played the whole 90 minutes – some game time which was useful and gives them a bit more experience at the senior level. Sadly, Luke dropped a dolly and then early on in the second half we found ourselves 2-0 down.

A few changes here and there which strengthened us allowed the boys to pull it back and we ran out comfortable winners in the end following good goals from Jamie, Kamen, Frankie and believe it or not, Jack Gibson.

Now this is the funniest thing I’ve seen for a long time.

Jack came along as a bit of a ‘goodbye’ as he shortly leaves for America to take up his golf scholarship. The plan was to try and get him on for a bit of a cameo appearance, so at 2-3 with 10 minutes to go, we threw him on at right midfield. His first involvement was a crunching 50:50 that he won fantastically… and then… Kamen won the ball, played it up the line to Jack and from a full 40 yards out on the touch line, he’s launched one into the top corner of their goal, followed by ludicrous goal celebrations all around.

I duly took him off immediately as his work was done. Hilarious. But an absolutely great beginning for us. I’m proud of you all lads but it is just the beginning – remember show me the money!”
