JTC Jersey Wanderers has announced the appointment of Ben Silva (Strength & Conditioning) and Carlos Rebelo (Goalkeeping) to its management team.
Silva, a PE teacher at Victoria College Prep, is a current Island Games athlete having previously competed in five games, winning a gold medal in Bermuda and taking silver in Jersey. Whilst previously coaching Sheffield United’s U19s, he also completed the UEFA B coaching qualification and additionally holds a sports science degree.
Rebelo, Senior Manager at First Names Group, has decided to hang up his goalkeeper’s gloves in order to share his experience and pass on some of the skills he has learned over his own playing career. Having turned out for various local teams, most recently the Portuguese Club, he has enjoyed numerous cup and league successes and represented Jersey at U21 level, and made both senior Islands Games and Muratti squads.
JTC Jersey Wanderers manager, Andrew Johnstone said: “We are all delighted to welcome Ben and Carlos to JTC Park and they will undoubtedly significantly strengthen our coaching capabilities. In the professional game, which we try to replicate as much as possible, coaching has become specific to certain areas, so to tap into their expertise will be of huge benefit to the Club as a whole. The days of simply running up and down the sand dunes to get fit are now a little outdated and Ben will bring a modern, scientific approach to our fitness schedule.
“Furthermore, as goalkeepers are a different breed entirely and more than any other position on the pitch need specialist training, Carlos will be looking to deliver such specific coaching to not only our senior section but also the older boys within the U18 and U16 age groups.”
