Minis football caters for players up to and including school year 5, that’s children aged 10 or younger. Clive Richardson conducted the first Jersey Wanderers Minis coaching session in September 2012 and 7 individuals of various ages attended. By the end of the 2018-19 season, a total of 104 boys and girls were being coached throughout Sunday mornings, in 6 age groups from Reception to Year 5, by an army of 15 innovative, progressive, qualified coaches.
Clive and his team have an inclusive policy, with the availability of places limited only by a sensible ratio of coaches to players. Games are arranged at frequent intervals with other clubs, where care is taken to match teams according to ability to ensure individuals are exposed to appropriate challenges. The club looks to involves all of its Minis players in teams for the Jersey Wanderers Minis Event each May, where the opposition is provided by a number of neighbouring clubs who share our inclusive approach.
Rather than conducting trials before each new season, Jersey Wanderers Minis Academy is successful in maintaining high playing standards by employing an ethos of improving existing players to help them maximise their potential. The Minis section sees itself as the platform for the development of both recreational and competitive players, with the latter progressing to the strong Wanderers junior section and beyond.
